❤️Perfect holiday truffles
These Valentine's Day Truffles are such a perfect holiday treat. They are so easy to whip up - no baking required! They start off by making a ganache (melted chocolate and heavy whipping cream).
Add in some seasoning and extract, then mix in plain cookie crumbs. The mixture needs to chill in the refrigerator for a bit, and then the truffles can be rolled in whatever type of coating you feel like - I used pink sugar!

🥘Ingredients
Ingredient notes
- Plain cookies - I used digestive cookies. Any plain cookie similar to that will work.
- Chocolate chips - I used semi-sweet. You can use milk chocolate, but they will be sweeter.
🔪Instructions
Place chocolate chips and butter in a large bowl. Heat heavy whipping cream in the microwave or in a double broiler until boiling. Pour over chocolate chips. Let sit for 3 minutes, then whisk until smooth.
Add vanilla extract and salt to the chocolate mixture and mix to combine. Grind cookies to cookie crumbs, either in a food processor, or crush them in a bag. Combine the crumbs with the chocolate mixture. Cover and chill mixture in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
Roll truffle mixture into 1 inch balls. Wet your hands if you find that they are too sticky to roll. Roll truffle balls in coating (cocoa powder, sprinkles, or coloured sugar). Chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving.
Colouring sugar
To make coloured sugar, pour granulated sugar into a resealable bag. Add drops of food colouring and seal up the bag. Using your hands, knead gently until colour is evenly distributed.
I have only tried this with gel food colouring. I don't know if liquid food colouring would work. I'm afraid the colouring would not evenly distribute.
✔️Expert tips
- If whipping cream is not melting the chocolate fully, put the whole bowl in the microwave and heat slowly until chocolate is melted.
- Use semi-sweet chocolate chips for best taste. Milk chocolate would be too sweet.
- Use whichever kind of coating you like (cocoa powder, sanding sugar, sprinkles, toasted nuts, or colour your own sugar).
💭FAQs
You can make the truffle mixture up to 3 days in advance. After they have been rolled and coated, they will last up to 7 days.
Truffles are made of a ganache center, and then are coated with chocolate, cocoa powder, sprinkles, nuts, or sugar.
Colouring sugar is so easy to do at home. All it takes is granulated sugar and as much or as little food colouring you need to make your desired colour.
