Ingredients

  • 2 cups orange juice
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  • Whisk the orange juice and sugar together in a large bowl, until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in zest, salt, heavy whipping cream and milk.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until cold, at least one hour or up to a day.
  • Churn the sherbet in your ice cream maker as per manufacturer's instructions. The sherbet will be a soft consistency when done. Spoon the sherbet into a freezer safe container and freeze until it is frozen, about one hour.
  • Store the sherbet in the freezer for up to one month.

Notes

  1. Make sure all your ingredients are cold before churning. After mixing everything together, cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  2. If you want to use fresh squeezed orange juice, you will need 2-3lbs of oranges.
  3. Use a small grater or microplane for grating the orange zest. Make sure you don't grate the white pith because it is bitter.
  4. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 1 month.
